Scrapbook Keeper

there she will be:
picking up golden leaves
off the cold autumn ground
gently pressing them between the pages
of her scrapbook
to keep their colours alive

a herbarium of love

tomorrow he’ll go hunting
for a bright-red nose
for the snowman they will never build
as winter colours cry of emptiness

the day is slipping through their fingers:
long gone

like grain among the stalks of rye,
colours fading in a merciless dash
towards black and white oblivion

you and I:
an empty scrapbook
